QFRS Inspector Steven Sparks said the Akoona Street fire at Wynnum started approximately 8.00pm in a house approximately 12 x 16m which was well involved. It was timber at the front, bricks two storey at rear. Fire was complex due to volume of stored furniture in lower level which added to intensity and difficulty in extinguishing quickly.
The premise was the Salvation Army Wynnum Furniture house.
Scientific Unit was on scene to ensure quality of air.
Took several hours to penetrate all heat sources, unable to gain access due to structural concerns.
Cause undetermined at this time. Will remain a crime scene.
